​JGray Engineering was founded on a rare combination of structural design knowledge and hands-on building experience—shaped by Jeff Gray II's lifelong connection to high-end residential construction. We do more than calculate loads—we engineer homes like we're building them ourselves.
Jeff grew up working in his family's business—a specialty lumberyard that provides both the structural design and structural components directly to custom homebuilders. From an early age, he was immersed in jobsite visits, cutting I-Joists, and studying framing plans—developing an eye for how great homes are imagined, assembled, and brought to life.

During college, he worked in the lumberyard where his responsibilities included handling deliveries, cutting floor joists, and preparing framing packages for deliveries to jobsites. Later, he transitioned into drafting framing plans as a design intern, learning firsthand how to translate architectural visions into practical, buildable systems.

After earning his degree in Civil Engineering, Jeff worked as a framer—building the very types of homes he had previously only seen on paper or walked through during construction. It was the beginning of learning how to balance real-world practicality with design theory—a perspective that continues to shape how we engineer every project.

He returned to his family's business as a project engineer, combining hands-on building experience with technical design. During this time, he also worked part-time for a second firm under the mentorship of one of the state's most respected structural engineers, balancing both roles simultaneously and further refining his technical skills while deepening his understanding of structural design in high-end residential construction.

Seeking new challenges, Jeff later joined one of the region's top structural engineering firms also specializing in high-end residential work. There, he designed architecturally ambitious homes and complex renovations, honing his ability to balance creative vision with technical excellence.

With that foundation—deep structural engineering knowledge, hands-on building experience, and mentorship from some of the best in the field—Jeff launched JGray Engineering.

Today, we focus exclusively on high-end custom single-family homes—because it's what we know best, and where we deliver the most value.
Our clients include architects and builders who want a structural partner who understands the craft, the collaboration, and the standards these homes demand.
